Dr. Michael Deis, Executive Director of Simon Kenton Bridges of Hope, and Marlene Labig, Vice President, were presented with a check for $12,000 from the First Evangelical Lutheran Church Mission Endowment Fund (MEF). The presentation took place at the church's worship service, Sunday morning, December third.
Presenting the check were Bob Altick, Chairman of the MEF Committee, and Rev. Alicia Nierman, Pastor. The money will benefit the Bridges of Hope Emergency Shelter at Simon Kenton School. The much-needed shelter for the homeless is scheduled to open in the next few weeks after all inspections have been completed.
The MEF at First Lutheran was established when the church received a generous bequest from an anonymous benefactor. The interest from the MEF is divided and distributed annually and is only to be used for mission and ministry projects for which members of First Lutheran have applied.

Simon Kenton Bridges of Hope
Simon Kenton Bridges of Hope is a faith-based, Christ-centered, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to creating a "Hub of Hope" that will serve those experiencing homelessness, poverty and consequences of addictive behaviors. Simon Kenton Bridges of Hope will address the needs of such persons by providing access to life-building and life-sustaining services, either through direct benevolence or in collaboration with private agencies, ministerial entities and/or government agencies. http://skbridgesofhope.org/

The Jeremiah Tree is a Xenia, Ohio area ministry dedicated to offering opportunities to the homeless, addicted and impoverished.
At its core, the “Tree†is a benevolence and assistance ministry. Our mission is to effectively and efficiently connect those in need to Christ, church benevolence and personal improvement opportunities currently available in the Xenia and Greene County community.
The Jeremiah Tree is an evolving collaborative effort of multiple local churches and community agencies. (Community Action Partnership, TCN, Miami Valley Women’s Center are a few.)
The Jeremiah Tree is being designed to empower, educate, and edify individuals. We do this by linking them with ministries and agencies for needed assistance. The Tree will also provide a place for mentoring, providing educational services and sharing the Gospel of Christ.

Currently, the Jeremiah Tree has implemented the “CONNECTIONS†phase of the ministry.
This phase seeks to provide “connections†for those in need to Christ, Community, and Counsel as well as to practical assistance such as food, clothing, and emergency services. These services are being offered 5 days a week from the “TREEâ€.

...Habitat for Humanity of Greene County. As always we are in need of workers and funds. Work is done every Wednesday and Saturday from 9:00am until about 4:00 pm. Groups should call 937-374-8726 to sign up. Individuals may just arrive at the site.
...Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) helps people without housing to have a temporary place to stay while seeking employment or preparing to secure housing. Greene County churches serve as temporary shelters one week at a time, and other churches and groups help provide support services, such as meals. Cleaning For A Reason is the only national non-profit in the country providing FREE, professional housecleaning services for women undergoing cancer treatment. The Foundation, organized as a Texas Non-Profit Corporation, is raising money to provide more help for more women everywhere.
..."Pass It On" a Household Goods Ministry at Westminster Presbyterian Church is available to all. They match up donors with clients needing furniture, baby items, household items and appliances. Any items that can be donated will be greatly appreciated. Items needed include: stoves, washers, dryers, refrigerators, beds, dressers, sofas, chairs, lamps, table w/chairs and end tables.
